Cat symptoms for some fatal cat health problems
Our cats seem very self-sufficient and do not require much maintenance. However, this does not mean that they can deal with health problems on their own. As our feline friends are unable to express their problems, we need to identify and recognize symptoms of various cat health issues in order to help them out.
Here are the evident cat symptoms for some of the fatal cat illnesses:
1. Leukemia symptoms
This is one the most common health problems faced by cats. Cats may contract the Feline Leukemia Virus when they are in the womb of their mother and the mother is itself infected. They can also get infected with the virus if they come in contact with other infected cats. There are vaccines for this disease. The clear symptom of this infection is a lump. There can be more than one lump inside the body of the cat. You need to gently check for lumps by moving your hand over the cat's body. If you find a lump, you need to get it treated before it becomes cancerous.
2. Peritonitis symptoms
This is the most dangerous cat disease which destroys the cat's immunity system from within. It is a coronavirus which enters their body and affects the lining of the intestines. This virus is present in the faeces of an affected cat and is highly contagious. If your cat contracts this disease, you can identify it through symptoms like fever, vomiting and diarrhea. In some cases, fluids accumulate in the chest and abdomen which cause a lot of pain to the cat. There are vaccines for this disease which can help in slowing down the progress of the virus but they are not of much help in the long run.
3. Urinary tract disease symptoms
Over a period of time, minerals and proteins accumulate in the urethra of the cat and cause urethral obstruction. It becomes difficult for the cat to urinate. The signs of such obstruction are not visible at first but when blood starts appearing in the urine or the cat needs to urinate frequently, then you need to take it to the vet immediately. The reason is that cats, especially the ones which are neutered, die within a day itself if the urethra remain obstructed for long.
Keeping these cat symptoms in mind can equip you to deal with cat health problems and relieve your pet from unnecessary pain and discomfort.
